Recipe | Whiskey BBQ Sauce

Ever wanted to make your own BBQ sauce at home? Well this one is easy, delicious, and addicting!!


As I was planning out my Smoked Bacon & Blue Cheese Juicy Lucy burgers, I sat there and thought that I needed to also make a sauce to go with it. What else pairs perfectly with bacon and blue cheese like a great bbq sauce. I, of course being the person that I am, decided that just a plain Jane bbq sauce wasn't going to cut it. What else could I add to really set it off? WHISKEY


I mean who doesn't love adding a little booze in their culinary arsenal at every chance they get.

Those burgers were delicious on there own but let me tell you, adding this Whiskey BBQ sauce really solidified everything together. It's sweet, smokey, and has just the right amount of heat to balance everything else out. This sauce would go great on ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and will stand on it's own as a dipping sauce.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup Whiskey (Personal favorite is Maker's Mark)

  • 1/2 onion (chopped & minced)

  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic

  • 2 cups tomato sauce

  • 1/3 cup white vinegar

  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)

  • 3/4 cup molasses

  • 1 teaspoon pepper

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 teaspoons liquid smoke (mesquite)

  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha/Tabasco (or to taste)


DIRECTIONS

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, combine the onion, garlic, and whiskey. Simmer for about 10 minutes, or until onion is cooked and translucent.

  2. While the onion is simmering, combine remaining ingredients into a mixing bowl. Whisk together to mix everything together. Once the onion is cooked mix in the remaining ingredient into the skillet.

  3. Turn up heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low, and simmer for 20-30 minutes.

  4. For a smoother sauce, run sauce through a strainer and let cool.

For best results, refrigerate for a day or two and allow flavors to blend.
